Affirmation: “Hallelujah to God for his mercy endures forever.”
Scripture: Psalm 136:1
Song: "Lord You Are Good" by Todd Galberth
It’s day 10 and I’m just blown away by God’s goodness and mercy. I’m grateful for his covering despite all that’s going on. We have all complained to some extent because we’ve been inconvenienced, and our lives have been disrupted. Our lives are changing on an ongoing basis, and, quite frankly, sometimes it’s really hard to keep up. I give glory to God, though, because he continues to demonstrate his love to us.
Today’s devotion is all about praise. No matter how you’re feeling right now, if you can take a deep breath in and let it all out, you are blessed. If you can still see and hear and move, you are blessed. Those kids you’re sick of? They’re your blessing too… and that job that’s driven you insane all week is indeed a blessing. One thing we must do in this season is thank God for EVERYTHING as it comes, even if it’s in the moment. I am grateful to him just for allowing me to make it this far.
Think about how you feel when you’ve done something pretty magnificent and some one tells you how great you were at it or some one gives you sincere thanks, or tells you how much it impacted them. It makes a little smile well up in your heart and you feel like you want to do even more of that. Well I believe that God is the same way, the word says that he inhabits the praises of his people, so he must LOVE the praise. When we praise Him, we get his attention, and he is compelled to see about us.
In our affirmation, we declare that his mercy endures forever, and for this alone we should praise him. All of the things he’s holding back from our lives can’t compare to what actually end up experiencing. So, we are grateful for his mercy! In our scripture we recognize how much he loves us and the extent to which his plans for us are for our good, not for harm. He is good, and he is kind. Not just kind, but he extends to us “lovingkindness”. There’s a difference in being kind because you’re just a nice person and being kind because you love the person to whom you’re extending kindness. There’s a level of intimacy, tenderness and compassion that accompanies lovingkindness.
So we give God praise this morning for the lovingkindness he is extending to us in this season. As the world changes all around us, one thing remains: HE will not change and his word will remain forever. I praise God this morning. Even in the midst of all that’s unknown, my heart is lifted to him in gratitude and praise.
Join me in praising him this morning, and listen to “Lord you are good” by Todd Galberth. This is going to get your Friday morning going and help you get through the rest of your day.
